Day 1 Early arrival in Taipei – Taipei City Tour
Upon early arrival in Taipei, you will receive meet and greet service at the arrival hall. Your tour starts with a breakfast stop at Soymilk King where it is the perfect place to start off your morning or a coffee stop at Starbucks nearby to warm up and start your day (Own expense). Today’s highlights are the local famous Longshan temple followed by a photo-stop at the presidential office building. Continue to visit to the Chiang Kai-shek memorial hall where you may witness the changing of the Guard. After lunch, you will continue to the National Palace Museum (Tickets included). The NPM houses large collections of artefacts, paintings and books from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. The museum has more than 690,000 pieces of Chinese imperial artefacts and artworks which covers more than 5000 years of historical achievement. Finally, you experience the soaring heights at the Taiwan tallest building, Taipei 101 (Tickets included). Day 2 Taipei > Jiufen > Shifen Waterfall > Pingxi > Hualien (B)
After breakfast, your tour will start with visit to Jiufen, a location that got its name because there were once only nine families who lived there. During the late 18th century, the area became very prosperous when gold was discovered. Tourists can still experience the glorious old days while walking through the old architectures and teahouses, there is a wide variety of local food along Jiufen street. Tour will continue to Shifen Waterfall in Pingxi District, widely-known as the “Little Niagara Falls” of Taiwan. There are several viewing platforms near Shifen Waterfall, where you can see the waterfall from different angles, even have a close-up look. On sunny days, a beautiful rainbow may created by the mist of this 20-meter tall waterfall as it splashes into the lake. The Shifen old street is lined with souvenir shops, sky lantern shops and eateries. You can also see many people set up their sky lanterns on the railway track, getting ready to release them into the sky. One sky lantern which share with 3-4 people (Tickets included). You can write down your wishes on the lantern and release it to the sky, so you can fully enjoy the tranquil and peaceful moment. Next, we travel towards Hualien via the Qingshui Cliff on the famous costal Suhua Highway. The journey will take approximately 2.5 hours before our next stop at Hualien. After checked-in at hotel, take a short walk to Dongdamen Night Market, must try some yummy street food and regional Taiwanese food. Hint: Having your wishes ready for the sky lantern. Day 3 Hualien > Taroko Gorge > Hualien (B, L)
The highlight of today is a visit to the world class renowned Taroko Gorge, which was created by a combination of tectonic movement and river erosion. You will experience the spectacular steep cliffs, grand canyons, marble rocks, caves and tunnels that stretched along Liwu River. Following the walking trails at a leisurely pace is a good way to experience the beauty of Taroko Gorge and the other scenic areas. Lunch (included) is carefully planned at the Taroko Village Hotel where the set lunch is like a piece of artwork with indigenous favour. Thereafter, tour continues to Tunnel of Nine Turns, you can see numerous types of chasm scenery where the rod goes right though the precipices. The most beautiful section is between the Tunnel of Nine Turns and Swallow Grotto. In this section, we can clearly see the river cutting through the mountain range, and the curvature of terrain is the most beautiful fascination with its natural design. Next, we visit Eternal Spring Shrine, also called Changchun Shrine where is one of the major picturesque points of the park, with the view of the mountains and the waterfall, and one of the main memorials for veterans. The shrine is built right above the waterfall streams, offering picturesque views of mountains and the waterfall. It is noted as one of the most photographed sites in the Taroko National Park. Day 4 Hualien – The East Rift Valley – Chihpen (B, L)
After breakfast, we will head toward Liyu Lake, a charming lake hidden up in the mountains of East Rift Valley of Hualien County. Continues to the Guangfu Sugar Factory, where you can enjoy up to 30 types of flavoursome popsicles and ice creams. We will sample the ice cream products that have become one of the “must-do” activities for tourists. A traditional lunch box (included) is included at Chishang, home of Taiwan’s best rice. After lunch, we travel to Mr. Brown’s Boulevard. Here we have the opportunity to hire a bicycle (Own Expense) to ride through the rice paddies of the Chishang Bicycle Trail. We then continue to Luye Highland, it is a hill in Taitung County’s Eastern Rift Valley, and it is one of the most popular spots in the country for hot air ballooning and paragliding. The area has beautiful scenery, especially the surrounding eastern rift valley. Hint: Why not take a short walk around hotel or enjoy hot spring at hotel. Day 5 Chihpen > South Link Highway > Kaohsiung (B)
This morning travel towards Kaohsiung will be via the science South Link Highway. Enroute to stop at Douliang railway station (Tickets included), the famous station due to the juxtaposition of railway, mountain and ocean. The journey will take approximately 2 hours before our next stop at the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum. The museum was completed in 2011 and fuses traditional and modern elements, and is equipped with the facilities to assist in spiritual cultivation and the attainment of wisdom. We will spend additional time at this place to enjoy the serene atmosphere followed by lunch at the famous Hi-Lai vegetarian restaurant. (Own expense). Next, we will briefly stop at the Formosa Boulevard station which is known for its “Dome of Light”, the largest glass work in the world, designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata. The highlight in the afternoon will include Shoushan Park to enjoy the full panoramic view of Kaohsiung. After check-in at hotel, you can spend rest of the day at the Pier-2 Art Centre, where 25 former warehouses have been converted into a thriving arts precinct. Overnight at Kaohsiung. Hint: After dinner, walk around the Pier 2 Art centre where the foundations of Kaohsiung’s cultural and creative industries. Every corner is full of fun, and every scene is impressive. Day 6 Kaohsiung > Alishan > Sun Moon Lake (B)
After breakfast, we will head towards Alishan National Park (Tickets included). The journey takes approx about 3 hours. There are eighteen mountains surrounding Alishan, making up the ridge of Jade Mountain – one of Taiwan’s most extensive mountain ranges. The natural valley and basin with high mountains, forest slopes, and steep terrain combine to forms Alishan – a location not to be missed! Lunch (Own expense) at Alishan Recreation Area before taking the Alishan Forest Rail (Tickets included) to explore this region highlights this is a once in a life time experience for most Taiwanese people. The Alishan Forest Railway was originally constructed for logging activities during the Japanese colonial period. It has become a popular tourist attraction over the years, because of its unique Z-shaped switchbacks, 47 tunnels and 72 wooden bridges. Walking distance of approximately 1 to 1.5 hours is recommended. Continue to Sun Moon Lake (approx 3 hours), the heart of Taiwan. Hint: Enjoy the rest of the day at Sun Moon Lake either riding bicycles or walking along the lake side track. Accommodation: 4* Lealea Garden Hotel or similar
Day 7 Sun Moon Lake > Taipei Airport (B)
After breakfast, enjoy the rest of the morning at Sun Moon Lake either riding bicycles or walking along the lake side track. After lunch, explore the Sun-Moon-Lake by sightseeing cruise (Tickets included). Across the lake and you will take in the spectacular view of Xuan-Guang Temple, and Lalu Island. Sun Moon Lake is located in the heart of Taiwan, which is surrounded by lush misty peaks and tea plantations. It has an elevation of 748 meters above sea level which creates the picturesque scenery of the lake. The encircling green mountains, lakeshore walking & cycling trails, and the passion of the local Thao indigenous people further make this a destination worth experiencing. In the afternoon, we will visit the famous black tea museum, Hohocha (Tickets included), where you smell the fragrance of tea before even drinking your first cup. Tour concludes at Taipei (TPE) Airport approx. at 20:00pm for CI53 from Taipei to Brisbane ETD 23:50pm.
